PANTOUM
Lyrical. Fascinating. Intense.
Pantoum are four young musicians from different parts of Germany whos paths crossed in October 2010 at the Academy of Music "Carl-Maria-von-Weber" in Dresden. Their common love for jazz and pop and everything between and beyond made
them start a new project where they could work with this material. In the beginning they dealt with songs and arrangements of well-known standards like "Take Five" or "Get Out Of Town" but soon went on developing their own music. The songs, mostly written by Inez, who won the national "New-Voices" Competition in June
2011, or drummer Katharina, give a lot of space for improvisation and energy. The uniqe voice of Inez Schaefer and the high aspiration of all players to have both musical and personal togetherness, make the bands sound what it is - something
special! The past year the band had a few gigs all over Germany and traveled to the Czech
Republic. Next stop will be Norway, e.g. the Dølajazz Festival in Lillehammer.
To coordinate concerts is not easy at the moment because drummer Katharina just
moved and started her studies at the Norwegian Academy Of Music in Oslo. But with
the declared intention to share their music with as many people as possible Inez,
Marius, Christoph and Katharina forget about borders and restrictions - neither
between pop and jazz nor Germany and Norway – It´s just about music!
In 2012 the band i going to play concerts in Germany and Europe and to record
their debut-album!

Pantoum, das sind vier junge Musiker aus verschiedenen Ecken Deutschlands,
deren Wege sich im Oktober 2010 in der Hochschule für Musik „Carl-Maria-von-
Weber“ Dresden trafen.
Die gemeinsame Vorliebe für Jazz und Pop und allem dazwischen und darüber
hinaus, ließ sie nach kurzem Kennenlernen direkt beschließen, die Band Pantoum zu
gründen und sich genau mit diesem Material auseinanderzusetzen. Am Anfang
widmeten sie sich vorrangig dem Arrangieren von Standards wie „“Take Five“ oder
„Get Out Of Town“, entwickelten aber bald den Drang etwas Eigenes und Neues zu
schaffen. Die Songs und Arrangements, zum großen Teil aus der Feder von
Sängerin Inez Schaefer, die im Juni 2011 den New-Voices-Wettbewerb gewann, und
Schlagzeugerin Katharina Lattke, lassen dabei viel Raum für Improvisation und
Energie. Die einzigartige Stimme von Inez und der hohe Anspruch aller Musiker
sowohl musikalisch als auch menschlich miteinander zu wachsen, macht aus den
Stücken das, was sie sind – etwas Besonderes!
Im letzten Jahr hat Pantoum ein Publikum in Deutschland, Tschechien und
Norwegen, unter anderem beim Dølajazz-Festival in Lillehammer, begeistern
können. Die Koordiantion der Konzerte war allerdings nicht immer ganz leicht, da
Schlagzeugerin Katharina für ein Auslandsstudium an der Norwegian Academy Of
Music in Oslo lebte. Doch mit dem klaren Ziel ihre Musik mit so vielen Menschen wie
möglich zu teilen, setzt sich Pantoum über Grenzen hinweg – ob zwischen Jazz und
Pop oder Deutschland und Norwegen – It´s just about music!
Die Band plant für 2012 neben weiteren Konzerten in Deutschland und Europa auch
die Aufnahme ihres Debut-Albums.
